New Release Tuesday

Today’s group was a recommendation  by another music driven individual who definitely has an ear for music and whose opinion I value.

Paramore, a Tennessee based rock band was formed in 2004 by Hayley Williams (lead vocals), Josh Farro (lead guitar/back up vocals), Jeremy Davis (bass guitar), Zac Farro (drums), and Taylor York (rhythm guitar).  Their debut album  All We Know is Falling was released in 2005, followed by a strong sophomore album Riot, released in 2007 that went certified platinum in the US and gold in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand.

Brand New Eyes, Paramore’s third album, was released today and promises the same youthful energetic experience as Riot did.  Full of quick bass lines and catchy hooks you will definitely have their songs stuck in your head.  The albums offers an uptempo rock experience with a sprinkle of some ballads which show Hayley’s range.   Paramore hasn’t created a new sound, but they definitely have added their twist to the pop rock genre.  Below, check out my top picks on the album along with the Acoustic cover of “Use Somebody” (Kings Of Leon Cover).

My top picks on the album:

Feeling Sorry

Misguided Ghosts

Use Somebody (Kings Of Leon Cover)

Money Mondays

This week we’re going to be starting off with a favourite of mine, Jamie T. Nicknamed as a “one man Arctic Monkeys”, Jamie Alexander Treays is a 23yr old English singer/songwriter with a flare for London grime style rap. He’s been described as what would be the result if Billy Bragg and Mike Skinner were to have a lovechild.

Jamie left regular school at 16 and enrolled at The BRIT School for performing arts. The school gave him space to grow and experiment with his unique sound. The school was also home to famous names such as Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Leona Lewis, Jack Penate and Adele.

Jamie T’s first album, Panic Prevention, was released in January 2007 and soon became a hit with singles If You Got Money & Calm Down Dearest reaching #13 & 9 respectively.  He toured the UK’s festival roster with his band The Pacemakers and closed out the year winning the NME award for Best Solo Artist.

Sept. 2009 and Jamie T has released his 2nd studio album, his first single Sticks ‘N’ Stones reaching #15 in the charts and his next single Chaka Demus tipped for more success.

New Release Tuesday

Today, I have decided to write about Kid Cudi.  With his  style and new twist, he provides a breathe of fresh air to the hip-hop scene.

Kid Cudi a native of Cleveland, Ohio started rapping towards the end of his high school years. Since then he moved to New York at the age of 20 and worked at the ever so popular Bathing Ape store to make a living. He released his mix tape “A Kid Name Cudi”, and soon caught the attention of Kanye West.  Since then his career has taken off!

Most of you have probably heard the popular track, “Day and Nite” by Kid Cudi. While this is definitely a hot single, which won him the Urban Music Award for Best Single 2009, I must say that the album is definitely fire!

The album offers a lot of substance musically and lyrically with its eclectic melodramatic beats and lyrics. It’s one of the those albums that you pop in after a long days work and just relax. It’s a chill and cool breeze album.

My top two picks on the album are:

Pursuit Of Happiness

Soundtrack to My Life

Money Monday’s

Monday rolls around and I’m sure we all have the same thought on our minds, ‘Where did the jeffing weekend go!?’. Well I hope you all had a goodn’ and to help get you into the beat of the week, here’s our brand new blog for a brand new week.

Passion Pit – Formed in 2007 Cambridge Massachusettes by Michael Angelakos (lead vocals/keyboards), Ian Hultquist (keyboards/guitar), Ayad Al Adhamy (synth/samples), Jeff Apruzzese (bass) and Nate Donmoyer (drums) Passion Pit hit the US electronic scene with momentum. After only a handful of shows Passion Pit had created a strong fanbase in their home town and were soon signed to Frenchkiss Records, NY (Columbia in the UK).

Since the release of their first full length studio album, Manners, May 18th 2009 the band has enjoyed glowing reviews as well as being a festival favorite playing at Bonnaroo,  iTunes Festival, Lollapalooza as well as many more live events in the UK and Japan.

Here’s their 1st single, The Reeling, which ranked in the top 40 of the Hot Billboard Alternative Songs.

Their next single, Sleepyhead, was featured in a string of commercials in the US, Cananda and UK.

Watch our for Passion Pit’s forthcoming single Little Secrets.

(Tomorrow the blog will be in the hands of our American colleague, so be sure to check back for his take on the music world!)

TGIFTune

As we finally reach the close of a long week I find myself humming along to a couple tracks I discovered recently. This next band I present before you has a similar vibe as Friendly Fires, but a little more on the electronic pop side.

Metronomy – The band was formed by Joseph Mount in Totnes, Devon, England (yes yes another Brit band…) in 1999.  Since the release of their 2nd studio album ‘Nights Out’ in Sept. 2008 they have  toured widely throughout the UK and Europe supporting acts such as Bloc Party, CSS, Klaxons, Kate Nash and Justice. As well as band success Metronomy has remixed many artists including Lykke Li, Roots Manuva, Franz Ferdinand, Klaxons, Goldfrapp, The Young Knives, Zero 7, Ladytron, and Kate Nash.

I couldn’t make up my mind which song to post, so here’s my top 2.

Have a great weekend, enjoy…

Don’t forget to check back next week for more bands and music news or even sign up for an automatic reminder.

Late Summer Music Picks

So recently, music has been stuck in the doldrums with no wind in sight.  My ears have been itching to hear that new cutting and innovative sound that brings a sort of freshness to the music scene.   I came across this band one day when my colleague was talking them up and asked me, “Did I ever hear of the Friendly Fires?”.  I told him no and pursued to work on my usual day-to-day tasks at hand.   I checked them out on YouTube later that day and I instantly became a fan! Hailing from St. Albans, UK, they offer a fresh new sound to the synth pop/rock genre with a euro twist.  They definitely offer a great on stage performance with their uptempo songs and bouncy beats!  At the top of this year they released they’re acclaimed single “Skeleton Boy”.  This song is a hit along with the band.  Definitely put this group on your radar as I am sure that they will create some buzz in the upcoming months!

Friendly Fires gets 4 out of 5 music notes!
